BIM: Why It Matters So Much

You might have heard the term BIM, either in our articles, in passing, in a conversation, or maybe you use BIM on your construction projects. In the last decade, a lot of changes have been on the horizon in the construction sector. The digitalization of the industry, and constant update on new ways to get and use data on the market. The most popular has to be Building Information Modelling (BIM). Some of our readers are not yet BIM enabled, and not considering implementing BIM in their operations in the near future. I don’t think this article will change the way you do business, let’s be realistic, but I hope that it will make you consider planning to implement the technology. Building Smarter Building Information Modelling  is , in essence, a methodology. It is a method of communication present throughout the building process, from the pre-construction phase, to the post-construction services. In its ideal form, it seeks to eliminate the need for Requests for Information (RFIs).  It

3 Reasons Why the FRAMR Will Boost Your Layout Productivity

To this day, most layout positioning on job sites are done with a tape measure and a chalk line.

This is the way it has always been done, and it works. Unfortunately, this method is time consuming and prone to errors. Layout positioning requires a highly qualified workforce. The lack of precision of the traditional tools and the expertise required make layout marking a highly expensive endeavour. The FRAMR is a new product developed by Mechasys, a young startup out of Montreal. Mechasys moves away from traditional means to position the layout on the job site and strive to revolutionize the construction industry.

The FRAMR is a laser projection tool that displays in real time the construction plans for the worker on the job site. It enables the workers to skip tracing almost entirely. Here are three reasons why this product is the best possible solution for layout positioning.

Precision

The emphasis is on doing the job right the first time, every time. The FRAMR is able to project in real time the construction plans on the worksite, with an accuracy of 3mm and an area of projection for one positioning of 3200 square feet. Which means that it is possible to do a wide range of marking before needing to move the FRAMR station, if marking is necessary. The carpenter can install steel tracks with great confidence. This task used to be error prone, now it becomes a one-man, mistake-free operation.

Speed

Because of the precision of the FRAMR, there is an obvious gain of productivity and efficiency. A task that would normally take one week to do, can now be accomplished by a single worker in a single workday, or less.

One of the main components for the increase in productivity and efficiency is the fact that measuring during the layout process becomes obsolete. A worker can take just a few minutes to setup the station, and the plan is then projected immediately in front of him.

The FRAMR sets up automatically, all you need is for a worker to identify three axis with a prism. The machine automatically seeks out the prism and saves the point. This setup is done in only a few minutes and require no expertise or specialized workforce. Factually, the entire FRAMR requires no specialized workforce to operate.

Robotized total stations can increase the speed of tracing by threefold, but the FRAMR skips the tracing process almost entirely.

Flexibility

The FRAMR offers a flexibility like no other total station (robotized or mechanic) on the market. It is possible to share as-built drawings in real time. If something is forgotten, or is misplaced, it is possible to modify the layout on the worksite and the changes will appear automatically. It is also designed to be tough and durable, making it the tool the most adapted for real job sites.

The FRAMR also allows you to keep track and control your data. You are able to keep track of every modification made on the plan. You will also be able to monitor productivity and share these data with stakeholders in the project.

Because of its speed, precision and flexibility, the laser projector FRAMR by Mechasys is without a doubt the better tool to solve the time consuming and error-prone process which is layout positioning on the job site.
